Sonja Quandt

The unicorn as a coat of arms was created under the rule of the Hohenstaufen kings and was given to the city of Schwäbisch Gmünd. It is one of the oldest coats of arms in Baden-Wuerttemberg and was first documented in 1277 as a seal print.
The guilds used the unicorn punch as a reference mark and flag. It served as an official test mark and quality sign for example to lable correct filled barrels or real materials, such as pure silver.

1860 Gebrüder Kühn was honored to be the only silver manufactory with the right to use the unicorn as a hallmark to document quality and tradition.

Story of success
Brand today
Once upon a time...
Johann Stanislaus Nepomuk Kühn was born on 13 November 1819 as a son of caretaker in Vienna where he also completed his apprenticeship as a silver smith.

As an apprentice and journeyman, he met and married his great love, and founded a gold- and silver smith manufacturer in Schwäbisch Gmünd in 1860.

Two heirs ...
His sons Emil and Gustav subsequently took over their father's successful business and renamed it Gebrüder Kühn.
Around 1900 ...
In 1900 the company gained international prestige, winning a silver medal in tableware at the Paris World Fair.

In 1911, they received the Grand Prix for functional design at the International World Expo in Turin. In 1918 the factory had 300 employees.

In the Year 1984 ...
The silver manufactory was taken over by Sonja Quandt 1984.
In 2014, she decided to give the manufacturer a brand name.
We have been working on the further development of silver ever since, and each piece is hallmarked SQ or Q.

Since Johann Stanislaus Nepomuk Kühn, the silver manufacturer has remained faithful to the principles of durability and first-class quality for over 150 years.
